The Performance - A Treasury of Tales
In our hurried, modern world, children can often be in need of a little ancient
wisdom delivered from
the heart. While told stories deliver enormous stimulation to the developing
linguistic and imaginal
skills of children, well chosen stories can also portray valuable life skills.
Stories can soothe the soul
and light the candle of hope, so necessary to the healthy emotional development
of a child. As
listeners identify with a brave, kind, strong or otherwise virtuous character,
emotional maturity can
be deepened.
Jenni chooses stories that speak to the souls of children. She highlights
and draws out their meanings,
without ever belabouring ‘the moral of the story’. Jenni draws
upon her diverse story repertoire,
adjusting her program according to the age of the group and her intuitive
sense of their mood and
interests. Jenni gets students up on stage and involves them in greater levels
of participation as the
show progresses. Stimuli for story writing and storytelling are given throughout
the performance.
The Performer
Jenni Cargill is a storyteller with unbridled enthusiasm and passion for
her art. Teachers often
remark after a show, that students who seldom listen well, sit spellbound.
Jenni employs a wide
repertoire of dramatic skills and a beautiful singing voice to hold her audience.
Her training includes a
Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Sociology from the University of
Queensland, classical
singing training and a diploma from the Drama Action Centre in Sydney. There
she studied clowning,
improvisation, dance, singing, mask, mummers, percussion and workshop facilitation
specialising in
storytelling. Her professional experience was gained in over twelve hundred
schools in Australia and
New Zealand.
